busy place
i stopped by here late on a saturday nite. Friendly patrons:) place was packed... found what I was looking for ! Definately will visit again
Love This Place!
I visited Des Moines once or twice a year and always make an effort to visit Blazing Saddles. The bartenders are no chill and make a pretty stiff drink for a great price. The locals are friendly and always willing to chat with you while smoking a cigarette. Love this place.
Terrible Bar
Was visiting Des Moines and heard this was the place to go although the general consensus was that all the gar bars sucked. I don't put too much stock in that since most people think their home bars suck. Well they were right!!! Someone must have gone in and sucked all of the testosterone out of this place....allthat was there on a Sat and Sun were queens! I don't think they even check IDs - some of these guys (and I use the word guys VERY loosely) acted like they were 15. On Sunday, besides the queens there were several drunk straight guys - no don't get me wrong, I'm all for a drunk straight guy now and then but not these guys. Way too drunk and way too obnoxious! Save Yourself the pain and just don't go.
Not Quite Latin Nite
GayCities describes it as a levi/leather bar, but it's hardly that. We went on a Thursday or "Latin" night, and while the music was in Spanish, there were not many Latino/as there. Everyone who *was* there seemed to be having fun, and it was definitely a mixed crowd. The drinks are cheap ($2 for ANY bottle of beer? Yes, please!) and strong (every cocktail is a double), which can make even the smallest, dingiest bar look great.
its a great place to meet and dance your night away.
THE Place to party in Des Moines!
We have been going to Des Moines for over 20 years and Blazing Saddles is always packed with fun and friendly people.
Been many years since I went out but...
Very good bar...great staff...great Friday afternoons for Happy Hour...Nice people there...enough Eye Candy if you are looking for it. One of the prettiest drag queens in the US makes the Saddle her home and it's all just a good environment!
The Saddle and its people
I used to be a happy, optimistic man who believed in the goodness of others until I started frequenting the Blazing Saddle. The hateful, jaded, horrible attitudes of the staff (minus Gary, who's a GEM), and patrons, stuck on thier own viewpoints of who's worthwhile (usually involving money and sex appeal, rather than virtues, humanity, or sincerity...dont get me wrong, Im an attractive man with a very large d*ck, I just refused to cave to thier shallowness), have left me disparaging, and disappointed in homos everywhere.
It use to be Great!
I just wanted to comment on all the straight people that go to the Saddle and how disrespectful they are to us lesbians. They hate to see a pretty girl with another girl. I use to love going there now I think about it twice. I don't have a problem with some straight people I know anybody is entitled to go but it's just unconfortable when me & my girlfriend are kissing or trying to dance and the people who are not gay are critizing us knowing that we are obviously in a gay bar! And on Latin nights we cant even dance, it's so uncomfortable now, it's like it's not even a gay bar. Straight guys go to check out the lesbians and straight girls go to check out the guys. I was wondering if there was ever any thought in maybe extending the saddle so that we are all be comfortable especially now that its not a gay bar its a shared bar! Oh and one last thing why isn't there any pictures of people who go there it would be nice to look up the saddle's website and see people who are regulars there having a good time.
Thanks for your time :-)
