Iowa's capitol city is right in the center of the state, placing it squarely in the center of the heartland. Des Moines doesn't usually attract too many tourists, but Iowa's amazing number of colleges means that people from all over the midwest end up here from time to time. The gay scene is relatively small with only a few gay bars and clubs, most are grouped in the East Village section, the nice walking area east of downtown.
